Applicant FAQ

1. I keep hearing stuff about attendance - what does that all mean, and how will it affect my application?

PF is a raid guild. We raid about 4-5 days a week between 6:30PM to 12:00AM EST on weeknights - during the weekends we can raid anytime.  On some weeks we might even raid every day or 6 days.  You must be able to keep up.  We always raid on patch days regardless.  In order for your application to be approved you must maintain 75% raid attendance for the entire application phase.

You can check your raid attendance in our points listings. Click on "Points" and then click on the "Current Point Standins" link. It will list your raid attendance percentage and some detail info about raids you have attended.

2. What if I have a RL situation that prevents me from making 75% of attendance - will that count against me?

If you have a RL situation come up that prevents you from meeting our attendance requirements, please speak to a Mentor or officer.   A list of class mentors is posted at the top of the Applicant's Forums.

We understand that RL happens and it needs to take precendence over EQ. However, if your RL schedule prevents you from making our raids on a regular basis, then PF may not be the guild for you. We don't want anyone to sacrifice RL for EQ so please make sure that your available times match our raid times =)

3. What about loot? Can I get any while I am an applicant?

No applicants are eligible for loot or any spells during the applicant phase, unless an item will rot. Items that can be looted for Multiquest are not considered rotting. Don't ask if you can be in on drops - we will announce in guildsay when an item is open to applicants.

4. Do I earn points while I am an applicant?

Yes, you earn points for each raid you attend,

5. How long will this "applicant phase" take?

Your applicant Phase will last approximately 30 days. We announce new members ONLY once a week - every Friday night. If you do not meet the attendance requiremets the officers *may* allow you to be remain as an applicant for another week rather than reject your application outright.

Not all applicants will be accepted as members into PF. Please keep this in mind - if your application was accepted it does not mean that your membership will be awarded.

6. What happens if I don't meet the requirements?

If for any reason your application is not approved, you will by asked to de-guild by an officer.  You may not have any alts tagged during your applicant phase.

7. What if I am late for a raid or if I have to leave early - do I still get points?

Yes. If you come late for a raid, send Kalynn a /tell that you have arrived and she will find a group for you. DO NOT send her a tell until you are at our campsite and ready to go. Likewise, if you have to leave, make sure you let her and Aylia know as well. She is generally coordinating groups at every raid, and Aylia is marking down points.

8. what about raid rules? Are there any?

We expect that everyone will maintain a mature, and positive attitude in each raid. Therefore, we ask that you follow these "Raid Rules to Live By":

If everyone follows the first item (Pay Attention) the rest will fall into place much easier. Pay attention when the gatebots are picking up people. Pay attention when Dots are being handed out. Pay attention to what group you are in. Pay attention to your group leader when asking about buffs you have/don't have. Pay attention to instructions from the leaders and officers.

9. What about codes of conduct etc? Are there any requirements and limitations?

Yes. We ask that you refrain from using foul language in any channel - specially in guildchat.  Our guildchat is considered PG-13 and we are fairly strict about that. When we are raiding, you must keep a mature attitude, that means you should not get into public channel arguments with anyone. If someone makes a public channel comment towards you or towards PF, please let an officer handle it. If an incident happens, you will receive one warning regarding this matter. If it happens again, your application will be denied and you will be asked to remove your guildtag

10. I heard something about posting stuff on other message boards - what is that all about?

We try to keep somewhat of a low profile as a guild. We have a strict policy to brag about our accomplishments on our boards and nowhere else. You should not initiate any posts about PF raids on any other boards nor should you be replying to any posts regarding PF on any other boards. If you see something posted, notify an officer and we will handle it.  Likewise PF does not subscribe to guild bashing of any kind - therefore any guild bashing posts made on other boards will not be tolerated and will be grounds for declining your application.

11. Ok so when I get my permanent tag then I am in forever, right?

No. Periodically we trim our roster - a "Cut list" is published once a month.  Any member on that list will be removed unless they are able to bring their status into compliance.  What does this mean? It means you must maintain a raid attendance of 50% at all times and if you are under level 65 you must make one level per month. If you do not meet either one of these requirements, you will be placed on the cut list.  Members on the cut list are given 3 weeks to get into compliance.  At the end of the 3 weeks they will be removed from the guild.

Our goal is to keep the roster as a true representation of our actual raiding force. What does this mean? It means that if any member is not meeeting membership requirements (barring short term RL issues), they will be given an opportunity to resolve the issues, and to bring their membership into compliance. If they are still unable to do so, they will be asked to leave.

PF is a raid guild.  If you cannot raid on a regular basis PF is not for you.

12. what do you mean by a reliable internet connection?

Be prepared to have 50+ people in camp during our raids. Sometimes we might be sharing a zone with another guild and might have up to 100+ people in the zone. This makes for a lot of lag. Having someone who constantly goes LD or who lags all the time is very counterproductive. Make sure you have an internet connection that is reliable (i.e. you don't go LD every few minutes). Also, make sure that your lag is not so bad that the game is unplayable or that your reaction is delayed. A lot of times timing is critical and if you are lagging behind it could cause us some problems.

There are a lot of things you can do to reduce lag: turn off luclin models, turn the clip pane all the way down, turn off spell effect, turn off character and NPC names, make changes to your datarate file, etc. If after all these changes you experience excessive lag at raids or multiple LD's then PF might not be a good match for you.

13. What about Flagging - PF will flag me if I don't have flags, right?

No - Do not rely on PF to get you all of your flags.  Most of the guild is elementals flagged already.  We will be doing A FEW backflags when NO OTHER priority targets are up (mainly RZ or Solro - we do not backflag any other flags).  It is recommended that you attend pickup raids or that you try to tag along other flagging raids if possible.   It is YOUR responsibility to aquire your flags.  Please keep in mind that while we raid the elemental planes we will be able to raid a few unflagged people in - these will be classes that are needed that day for that raid.  If you are not able to get raided in you will lose attendance and you will not earn any points.  Therefore, it is in your best interest to try to get flagged at any available opportunity.

If you are invited to a flagging raid (for a flag you need) taking place during a normally scheduled PF raid, please check with your mentor BEFORE you go to the flagging raid. We will be allowing applicants to attend flagging raids during  guild raids and you might even earn RA for it (this will be decided on a case by case basis) - you must check in with the leadership before you go or you will LOSE RA!  You must post what flags you are missing ASAP in the flagging forums so that we know which backflagging raids to plan first.  Thank you!

14. Ok - so when can my alts be tagged?

Your alts can only be tagged once your final membership is approved and you are a permanent member.  Please look for Vladimoir or Kalynn - they are the only two who can tag alts or members.

15. Can I go negative on my points?

No - you may not go negative in your points at any time.  Applicants are not eligible for loot but at times, when an item is about to rot, applicants will be given the opportunity to go in the lotto for the item.   You MUST have earned enough points to actually cover the entire cost of the item in order to go in for it on a lotto open to apps.

16. I don't agree with loot rotting!

We go over this with many applicants.  Loot must have the potential to rot in order to maintain the integrity of our point system.  If someone does not have the points for an item it will rot - sometimes exceptions are made but not often.  Every applicant feels that they have a solution to the loot rotting "problem".  This is not a problem - this is an inherent part of our point system and it will never change. Please understand that before you submit your application to PF.  Our point system is well thought out - no changes to rotting loot will be made.
